A Mural for a French Café
I’ve always avoided painting anything too big – I figure if it’s anything like my golf game it would simply exaggerate all my mistakes and eventually i’d end up throwing my paintbrush in a lake. But when the owner of a café in Saint Chinian asked me if I’d be interested in doing something on his terrace wall I thought I’d take a chance – if it really did become my golf game I figured I could just repaint the wall white and leave the country. But actually it turned out OK. The owner seems happy, the regulars seem to recognise their own long forgotten landmarks, and even the tourists have a kind word to say about it. So I’m glad I took the risk and gave it a try. And who knows, maybe I’ll do another mural in another sleepy French town one day.
